GetWise intermediate

Our intermediate programme

At an intermediate level, our programme offers students and their teachers more advanced learning opportunities.

Both available workshops at these year levels build upon the tenets of the primary programme with a distinct future focus on planning, saving, and spending. From recognising the outside pressures that can influence their spending while on an out-of-this-world shopping mission, to stepping through their first ‘Get What You Want Plan’ and leveraging their decision-making skills to compete in a ‘cash-clever’ quest to make their dream holiday a reality; students examine key concepts and skills to secure their financial future.

Workshop 1

It’s holiday time! But before students head off on their dream holiday, they need to make a plan and try to stick to it before navigating the outcomes of their decisions. A great lesson in planning, decision making and comparative shopping all while considering how money works in getting the things that we need and want.

Concepts covered include:

  • Income and expenses
  • Budgeting: Making a plan to get what you want!
  • Spending money: Credit cards and dealing with debt
  • Making good decisions: Currency exchange, insurance and hidden costs

Workshop 2

A 45-minute face-to-face professionally facilitated workshop with augmented reality elements based on practical financial decision making and planning. Students consider the various influences of their spending before blasting off on a Star Shopper adventure into the far reaches of space. Students are provided with a free comic book.

Concepts covered include:

  • Making good decisions with money
  • Spending influences
  • Making a spending plan
  • Comparative shopping

We will be scheduling regional roadshows to areas outside the main metropolitan areas, so schools from Kaitaia to Invercargill will be able to book ASB GetWise facilitators to come to their school and present to their students.

Wherever you are – get in touch today! We’re looking forward to visiting your school soon!
