Vane SopoagaThe people at ASB recognise that they have a responsibility to help improve the financial literacy of New Zealanders and since 1926 has been providing school banking in the communities in which it operates and delivers a range of education and literacy programmes for school children and financial help tools for New Zealanders to use.

In 2010 ASB, in conjunction with ChangeLabs (a leading behavioural change and education organisation – now known as Karrikins Group) developed ASB GetWise, a programme to assist New Zealand Primary and Intermediate schools to deliver financial literacy concepts to their students in an impactful, engaging, and memorable way. We all know that students today are exposed to more complex financial situations and choices than ever before, and much earlier in life, so there’s a need to make sure our kids are given the skills they need now to stay out of financial difficulty, manage their money, and handle everyday financial decisions.

ASB GetWise facilitated workshops are available at four Primary school levels and at Intermediate level. Not only does ASB GetWise provide a fully trained facilitator free of charge for content delivery, every booking also receives access to our teacher resource packs with activities and further financial education lesson plans so that the learning can continue long after the session ends.

ASB GetWise has facilitators based in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch, but is also committed to traveling to school communities across New Zealand. Scheduled regional roadshows to areas outside the main metropolitan areas are planned every year, so that schools from Kaitaia through to Invercargill all have the opportunity to book an ASB GetWise facilitator to come to their school and deliver workshops to their students. Tessa Knight – Programme & Operations Manager 

Auckland born Tessa is excited to be helping young Kiwis around the country become better at managing their money. With a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree from Massey University, a strong academic background has made her passionate about improving the financial literacy of our kids. Tessa has previously used her skills to facilitate the programme in schools for three years and she is so enthusiastic about what we do, she now manages and inspires the whole ASB GetWise team. Erin Bradley – Programme Administrator 

Originally hailing from Hawkes Bay with a strong background in Office Management in both NPO and small business, Erin is passionate about participating in transformational change in people’s lives and communities. This has meant over the years she has worn many hats both professionally and voluntarily from Community Outreach Co-ordinator, Dream Consultant to Partner in her family’s business.

Her favourite aspect of being part of the GetWise team is hearing feedback from schools that children of all ages and backgrounds are not only enjoying getting grounded in financial literacy, but are growing in character, learning responsibility, encouraged to dream about their future and being inspired to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs!
